Welcome to the Leek
Choral Society
Website
2009
9th May "Messiah"
All Saints’ Church, Leek, commencing 7.30pm
2009
18th December "A Christmas Occasion"
All Saints’ Church, Leek, commencing 7.30pm
Tickets for the
concert are available
from Picture Book, Stanley Street, Leek and Picton Street Post Office,
Leek four weeks prior to the performance.
No-one should be
too shy or afraid to
join the Leek Choral Society. Everyone is welcomed for a trial
settling-in period where confidence is built up and new friendships
established. It is not necessary to be able to read music, and all the
music needed for the concert is generally provided free of charge.
After a few
rehearsals a person wishing
to become a member will be asked to sing a simple musical exercise
(Following the piano) and a short piece of music they have prepared.
This would be after a rehearsal and in front of two or three committee
members.
Notification of
the outcome would
follow in a few days. The membership fee is kept to a minimum - it is
intended simply to cover the cost of hire of the rehearsal rooms - and
is assessed by the committee every twelve months and accepted formerly
at the Annual General Meeting in the spring.
The choir
"uniform" is currently under
review, and it is intended that any modifications would be paid for
through the Society funds.
Joining us,
therefore, is not an
expesive business, and it is hoped that all members can experience the
pleasure of learning a wide range of musical works in congenial
company, and presenting them in concert at the appropriate time. We aim
for a high standard of performance, but when we fall short of the ideal
we are honest with ourselves, discuss the problems and try to do
better. Surley that should be a guiding principal for all choirs!
Practices are held
every Friday evening
from early January to mid-May and from the beginning of September to
Christmas each year. They commence at 7.30pm and are held in the St.
John’s Church, Belle Vue Road, Leek. Further details
available on 01538 371428.
The object of the
Society shall be to
perform musical works which the Committee deems to be of artistic value.
Every year since
1985 the choir has
presented a Christmas charity concert entitled “A Christmas
Occasion”, raising money for local charities.
